101 Ways to Move Forward After A Midlife Divorce
Tip #94. Poke around some second-hand stores. This is a perfect time to explore those shops. Because of your situation and because of the general state of the economy, second-hand stores are actually “in” these days. There are high-quality re-sale shops in just about every community. And you’d be amazed at what you can find. Clothes that still have the price tag on them. Designer fashions that the owner grew tired of after one wearing. Great jeans. Fun jewelry. Funky accessories. And the cool part is, everyone is beginning to do the conservation thing. I have always been a second-hand bookstore junkie. It’s because I love old books with their irregular pages and handset type and sometimes leather covers. And you would not believe the literary jewels I have found for just a few dollars. At our annual book club book exchange, I almost always bring an old, fun book from my second-hand bookstore. There are also used-furniture stores. One of my favorites in my city is a Retro shop with all kinds of fun furniture from every decade. And you’d be amazed at some of the “designer” furniture you can pick up at flea markets. Take a friend some afternoon and go see what you can find. I think you’ll be surprised at the quality of things you’ll discover for less than you expect. It’s sort of like a cost-saving treasure hunt! And it’s fun even if you find nothing to buy at all.
