101 Ways to Move Forward After A Midlife Divorce

Tip # 75. Buy a pumpkin. Life happens in seasons. Here in the Midwest we have a full-range of different seasons. It helps us remember, “this too shall pass.” During the worst parts of my divorce recovery journey, I wrote in my journal, “I am so ready for Spring in my life,” and I meant it. But it’s Fall now. It’s October. Let’s not rush through the Fall. Learn the lessons and see the beauty of every season. Celebrate the transitions of the year and of life. Fall has always been my favorite season. I love the sunny days with just a hint of coolness in the air. And I love the colors of Fall. Go to a farmer’s market or grocery store and buy a pumpkin. A big, round, orange pumpkin. The color orange is one of the most uplifting colors in the spectrum, and somehow the shape and color of pumpkins is reassuring. If you have grandchildren, buy each one a small pumpkin and one of those sets that has little colored plastics that you hammer into the pumpkin (after it’s cleaned out …. Do that before they get there) When they finish their design or face, put a tea-light or candle inside the pumpkin, and the light shines out through the different colored “lights” that have been hammered in. They’re beautiful in the dark! If you can, buy several pumpkins of your own and just see if they don’t make you feel better. (I couldn't help adding that second picture of "pumpkins!" Isn't that creative and funny?" Enjoy Fall!
