101 Ways to Move Forward After A Midlife Divorce


Tip # 73. Watch a funny movie. Invite a friend over, pop some popcorn, drink some pomegranate juice (it’s supposed to be great for you!) These are scary times for lots of people, but especially for those of us who are struggling with a midlife divorce and trying our best to survive. Sometimes a little pure escape helps. Sometimes watching a ridiculous movie hits the spot! Go to your corner “Rent-a-movie” center and ask the clerk (try to find one older than 17) for the two or three funniest movies they have in the store. Keep in mind that not everyone has the same taste in comedy. I knew some people who thought the "Wedding Crashers" was funny. I just thought it was dumb. Try anyway. Maybe you could google: Ten funniest movies of all time or something like that and see what comes up. If you feel up to it, invite a friend over and watch the movies together. If she is trying to recover from divorce as well, you can cry and sob intermittently. Sobbing gets to actually be funny after a while. It doesn’t do one bit of good except make our eyes and noses red, but somehow we usually feel better after a good cry. We also feel better after a hearty laugh.
