Tip # 71. Buy some flowers. Next time you go to the grocery store, buy a little bunch of flowers for yourself. Buy the flowers instead of a high calorie, high fat snack that’s not good for you. Take the flowers home and put them where you will see them every day. Put them in a crystal vase by your bed, or in a mason jar on your kitchen counter, or in a simple container in the front entry where you’ll see them first thing when you come into your house. Even if you buy one big, bright Gerber daisy, you will get the same result. Flowers make us feel good. Flowers make us hopeful. Flowers force us to appreciate the beauty of nature. Often it takes something as simple as a flower to change our outlook, to help us de-stress, to help us focus on the good things in life instead of the ugliness. During a midlife divorce and the recovery period following that life-altering event, consciously take simple positive actions that bring you an immediate lift. Bright color does that. Fragrance can do that too. Flowers are a natural high. By the way, if you give up an extra bag of chips, you can buy an extra bunch of blossoms and drop them off at your nearby assisted living center. If you don’t have time to talk, tell the person at the front desk to give them to the person who needs them the most. Bloom – wherever you are today!
