101 Ways to Move Forward After A Midlife Divorce

Tip #61. Make an ongoing list of your blessings. Add five new things every single day. During midlife divorce recovery, we are mostly caught up in our discouragements and challenges and worries. Try instead to focus on all the great things you still have in your life. I have recommended the book 15,000 Things to Be Happy About before. It forces us to appreciate the things we often take for granted like “your favorite mug, the color yellow, freshly washed sheets, a great haircut, fingers, the crisp feel of fall, the Sunday funnies … “ Well, you get the picture. Start being aware of every thing you have to be grateful for. Tune in to all the thousands of blessings you could name every single day of your life. Start your list today. If you take the time to be aware of all the miracles going on around you and in you every single day of your life, you will soon discover that the good in your life far, far outweighs what you see right now as bad. In fact, I am almost to the point of putting “divorce” into my list of blessings, because it has forced me to an even more heightened awareness of everything I have to be thankful for. So, as the song says, “Count your blessings … name them one by one.” You’ll be amazed at how good life really is.
