101 Ways to Move Forward After a Midlife Divorce

Tip # 49. Value your body. During my midlife divorce recovery journey, I often wished I had a different body. My then husband’s girlfriend was skinny and had longer legs than I did. I felt dumpy and frumpy even though I went to the gym every day and was in better shape than I had been in a long time. (Plus, I had even lost weight!) But still I felt fat and less than beautiful. Right now, I want you to close your eyes and be thankful for your body regardless of what it looks like. If you haven’t dressed for the day yet, stand “nekkid,” in front of a full-length mirror and look at your body. Appreciate every single inch of it. You can’t miraculously change it today, but you can be thankful for it and make a pledge to treat it kindly and with respect. Stop abusing it by eating stuff that is not good for you. Make it strong by using it to walk or run or bike or whatever. No matter where you are physically, you can improve your strength and power. Be inspired by all of those Olympians who have worked and sacrificed to excel. Find the inner-Olympian in you. We can all be our own champions! Start today! The Bible says our bodies are the temple of God’s spirit. That in itself demands respect and should inspire confidence!
