Tip #34. Volunteer somewhere. When you are going through a midlife divorce, volunteering may not be in your “master plan to get better,” but it should be. Scientific research shows that the spiritual truths we’ve always heard are actually true! Helping others is good for us. Helping someone else gets your perspective back where it should be. You are being proactive. You are contributing to the good of someone else. You can help solve your own problems by helping someone else solve theirs. Find a soup kitchen and serve a few meals. (They are usually swamped with offers to help at the holidays, but other times they often go lacking.) Be a Big Sister. Volunteer at a not-for-profit day care or women’s center. Think about how you personally can use your specific talents to help someone else. Use those gifts you’ve been blessed with. Today, put your shoulders back and recognize how much you have to offer and then offer it freely and with joy. You’ll be glad you did!
