101 Ways to Move Forward After a Midlife Divorce
Tip # 26. Enroll in an ethnic cooking class. Or at least try some new ethnic recipes. What is your heritage? What kind of food are you interested in? My mom’s family is Irish and French and she grew up in Louisiana, so my kitchen tradition includes Cajun and just pure and simple southern cooking including peach cobbler, boiled peanuts, red beans and rice, shrimp creole, grits, black-eyed peas, lots of vegetables and always hot bread. My mom always cooked more than we needed in case “someone stopped by.” Sharing food is a spiritual, bonding experience. Learn to cook something completely new, then invite friends over to eat it with you. Have everyone bring one dish to share from a certain cooking tradition. Don’t get too fancy, just try something different. Or have a group of friends come over and learn to cook something new together ... try Greek or Japanese or French or whatever theme you want. Experiment. Branch out. Then enjoy the pleasure. Your midlife divorce is causing you to do all kinds of new things. Why not do something new that can also bring you fun and some Delicious Delight in the process?
