101 Ways to Move Forward After a Midlife Divorce
Tip # 25. Go outside for 30 minutes. Enjoy the weather whatever it is. New studies show that most of us are deficient in Vitamin D. One of the reasons is that we’ve stopped going outside. Especially in the summer, we are afraid to let our skin see a ray of sunshine for fear of getting skin cancer. And I’m not suggesting baking, unprotected, for hours. But latest studies show that going out in the sun for 30 minutes at noon in New York City will up our level of Vitamin to D to healthy levels. And I know that in the first stages of my midlife divorce, on the days that I chose a table outside for coffee or breakfast or lunch I usually felt better. Or if I was at home, taking a 15 minute break on the deck pepped me up. Just being outside feeling the warm sun and the cool breeze on my skin gives me encouragement. When I give myself a dose of the outdoors, I feel more optimistic and alive. Walking outside for 20 or 30 minutes a day, no matter what the weather will get you back in touch with nature and the natural you. Embrace the elements, and before long you’ll be embracing other positive things as well.
