R.A.D.I.C.A.L. Thoughts

“While grief is fresh, every attempt to divert only irritates.” ~ Dr. Samuel Johnson

As I write these Daily R.A.D.I.C.A.L. Thoughts about midlife divorce recovery, I realize that you who read them are at different places in this journey. For some of you, the “grief is fresh.” Some of you are still in that awful place of absolute desperation and despair. Some are further along. I remember that in the beginning, I honestly was not in the mood to be lighthearted or to get advice about cellulite, or spring, or how to make plans for a wonderful future. I couldn’t be distracted from the pain. As I struggled to deal with all of the physical and emotional agony of every single day, it was a battle for a survival that left any of my “self” intact. Some of you reading this may still be in that period of anguish. I don’t mean to be glib or trite about recovery. In writing every day, I just want you to see that there is a promise of better things to come. There is a hope of smiling again …. and yes, even laughing. You may not be able to use each one of these thoughts at this point. But, every so often, go through the list of posts and pick out a few to read even if it’s just to see where you are going and what good is possible in the future. I want you to know that your new life can be, and will be, better than you think. I’m trying to help you “catch your breath” and keep putting one foot in front of the other until you understand that.

“If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there; if you’re kicked in the gut, he’ll help you catch your breath.” ~Psalm 34:18 (The Message)
