R.A.D.I.C.A.L. Thoughts
“You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
Any direction you choose.
You’re on your own and you know what you know.
And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go.”
~ Dr. Seuss
The year it came out, we gave the Dr. Seuss book entitled, Oh the Places You’ll Go! to lots of kids who were graduating from high school. It starts out ‘Congratulations! Today is your day. You’re off to Great Places! You’re off and away!’ Through the book it talks about new sights and heights and exciting races …. but it also talks about Slumps and bang-ups and hang-ups and waiting and bad places! If you don’t want to buy the book, go to Barnes and Noble or Borders, get a cup of coffee and sit down and read it. (You’ll probably buy it anyway!) The gist of the story is as appropriate for someone going through midlife divorce as it is for someone starting out after high school or college. You are the one “who’ll decide where to go. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” So consider your divorce as the start of a new stage of life that is just as full of ‘adventure, magic and fame’ as you decide to make it. Plus, you have not only the words of Dr. Seuss to inspire you, but the God of all creation has promised to give you wisdom if you ask. He will watch over you and shield your way and point you to ‘every good course.’ So as Dr. Seuss says on the last page of his book ... ‘You’re off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way!’
"
For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice, and He preserves the way of His godly ones. Then you will discern righteousness and justice and equity and every good course." ~ Proverbs 2:6-9
