R.A.D.I.C.A.L. Thoughts

"A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for." ~John Shedd

We all want to be safe. But I know in the middle of my divorce, I did not feel safe. In divorce, security is often washed away in our own personal tsunami. We have probably never felt more insecure than when we are in the middle of this hurricane. But, in actuality life has never been safe. Life is the ultimate in insecurity. You don't know what will happen from one minute to the next. But is safety what we really want? Or do we really want adventure? And victory? And an excited anticipation about life and all it's wild glory? That's what I want. I want to grab hold of life as a incredible journey of discovery. I don't want my ship to stay tied up in port because I'm afraid of what might happen out in the open sea. Sure there are big waves and strong winds and fear and you might even throw up now and then ... but when we ride those things out, the destination will be worth it! Our destination isn't the safe harbor, it's the realization that even though life is insecurity on a grand scale, it's also understanding the truth that with God, we can take hold of the only real security available anywhere. We can be sure that no matter what happens ... NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, we have the chance to make whatever happens into something good. God promises to help us do that. There are no escape clauses. He promises if we will step out in faith to do what we were meant to do ... live joyfully and boldly and with wild abandon, he will get us safely to the other shore! And what an amazing place that is!

"Rise up; this matter is in your hands. We will support you, so take courage and do it."
Ezra 10:4
