R.A.D.I.C.A.L. Thoughts
"We talk here all the time with our players. 'You can dream or you can pursue.' This is the product of our players pursuing this goal." Kansas University football Coach Mark Mangino on the goal of getting to a big bowl game
Do your dream about reaching your goals or do you actually pursue them? I'm not interested in football that much unless it's a year like this one when our usually mediocre (okay, terrible) football team has a record of 11 wins and 1 loss. At the University of Kansas that is almost unheard of. So we're celebrating getting to go to the Orange Bowl this year. In reading the sports page yesterday, I was impressed by coach Mangino's comment about the difference between dreaming about some goal or actually pursuing that goal. "Dreaming is passive ... we talked about pursuing it and that's why we're going to the Orange Bowl." I thought about how that relates to what I want to happen in the rest of my life. My parents always taught us to set goals, and my mom especially always said to dream big dreams. I still agree with that, but like the K.U. football team (and all of us) know, just dreaming won't get us what we want. Doing what it takes to achieve that goal ... will. We have to actively pursue. We have to know what we want. We have to take steps every day to get what we want. Do you want a good life after your midlife divorce? Go after it. Don't just sit around and wish it would happen or dream of something happening. Take positive steps to make what you want happen. Pursuing gives you power, and the God of the Universe wants to help. When you drink your orange juice this morning, think about what goal you are pursuing in your life now.
" ... if you seek God, your God, you'll be able to find him if you're serious, looking for him with your whole heart and soul."
Deuteronomy 4:29
P.S. For all you K.U. fans out there, Mangino should also pursue the goal of losing a couple hundred pounds!
