R.A.D.I.C.A.L. Thoughts

“No matter how busy you are, you must take time to make the other person feel important.” ~Mary Kay Ash
Well, here we go! My house looks like a tornado hit it! We barely get one load of dishes out of the dishwasher before the next batch goes it. We've had wonderful family coming and going since Tuesday and I've loved every minute of it. (Even the last minute trip to the store at 10:00 p.m Thanksgiving eve to get a can of Evaporated milk to replace the out of date can in my pantry.) It's wild and crazy around the holidays, but it's a wonderful, memory-making wild and crazy! The kitchen is always "OPEN!" and thankfully, there's plenty of food if anyone needs a snack. All the beds and fold out couches have been in use. Today, my brother came to pick up my parents and take them home as my oldest son was dropping off his children because this is part of my Christmas gift (A day for the kids to be here, so he and his wife have some quiet time of their own to plan or just go out to dinner before the onslaught starts.) There was an ad in our paper yesterday that a certain store was opening it's doors at 4:00 a.m.! I feel as though some invisible force is pushing all of us in an inevitable crowd of people surging forward in a big rush to the edge of a cliff --- the holidays. You feel as if you have to run to keep from being trampled. But I am adamant! I refuse to fall prey to that frantic kind of unhealthy craziness. I refused to listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. But now things are really rolling and will be on this pace from now til the the clock strikes midnight to begin 2008. But through it all, I'm going to try to remember that what is important in these holidays are the people. Those we love. Those we live by. Those we worship and work with. Even those we don't know but wish good will. Right now at the beginning of this holiday season, let's all take a deep breath and keep our attention where it should be -- on others ... making them feel important and helping them live well.
"We want to live well, but our foremost efforts should be to help others live well."
I Corinthians 10:24
