R.A.D.I.C.A.L. Thoughts

"The future isn't what it used to be."
Linda Moakes

My life hasn't turned out like I thought it would. At the beginning of my midlife divorce, I couldn't believe that the future I thought I would have was completely gone. I cried about that. I was heartbroken about that. I had beautiful, exciting plans for that future. Early on, after the divorce, when I looked into the future all I could see was uncertainty and loss and loneliness and fear. But you know what? In some ways, the future is, and always has been, a big giant question mark. But something calming and exhilarating that I have discovered on this road is that in some ways the future is absolutely certain. We never know the particulars of what our future will be, and we all know, totally unexpected things happen in life. But one thing is certain: your future is up to you. Know matter what has happened in the past or what happened five minutes ago, the future is completely, totally, beautifully up to you. You can decide to have a wonderful future ... or not. And let me tell you, wonderful is waaaay better. The way to make the future good is to keep it where it belongs ... in the future. Don't worry about stuff in the future. Don't fret about the future. Don't envy what you think someone else's future is going to be. All you have to do is to make this minute, this hour, this day just the way YOU want it and the future will take care of itself. The details of the future are always in question. But doing what you want now, doing the good things that brings joy and gladness now, is the unshakable foundation of the building you will have in the future. The amazing thing is ... the future may not be what it used to be, but you can continually make it everything you want it to be! Start now!

"Don't envy evil men but continue to reverence the Lord all the time, for surely you have a wonderful future ahead of you. There is hope for you yet!"
Proverbs 23:17-18 (The Living Bible)
