R.A.D.I.C.A.L. Thoughts
"It's not about you." Rick Warren
Today I'm going to have five minutes of my 15 minutes of fame! I'm going to be on a popular local television talk show with wonderful hosts who talk about what is going on around Kansas City. I have been on a few television interviews, but not enough not to be a little nervous about it. Romy is cutting my hair this morning. I've made sure my clothes look alright. I have in my head what I want to tell the viewers about how to Survive the Holidays While You're Surviving Divorce. But what helps me most is to remind myself of something I have learned through my midlife divorce. That life is not really about me. This program is not about me. Today, it's about getting the word out to women who are struggling at this time of year to make sense of the holidays in the middle of a divorce. It is about understanding that life at it's best is when we focus on others and on the bigger picture and on how we can help. We all need to be confident and do our best to be our best, but what will bring true fulfillment and joy in life is in relaxing and realizing that this play is more than my individual part. People won't care so much if I'm not perfect. People don't expect you or me to be perfect, but they will connect if they realize that we care about them and want the best for them. So I'm going to take a deep breath, relax, smile and hope that's what people see when they tune in today. By the way, I think after today you can go google KC LIVE and there will be a clip of my interview. Watch it and be gentle!
"People who don't know God or the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God initiative, God provisions. Don't worry about missing out. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met." Matthew 6:31-33 (The Message)
