"Help me to fling my life like a flaming firebrand into the gathering darkness of the world."
Albert Schweitzer
Today I'm going to try to live with the kind of reckless abandon Albert Schweitzer was talking about. I like the visual image of "flinging my life like a flaming firebrand!" So often we live our lives in a sort of ho-hum, dreary, boring, unexciting way. But today let's try to see ourselves as bright lights shooting out sparkles every which way. Forget about how we will look to others or what anyone else will say or how crazy people think we are. Let's get out of this sad, lonely, depressing divorce rut and just stand up and shine in any way we possibly can. Let's shine when we meet someone. Let's shine when we go to our job. Let's shine when we fix dinner. Let shine as we walk around the block. Just for today, forget about anything but being a flaming fireball ... a shining light on a hill ... a magic sparkler of fun and festivity! Spend this particular day in a blaze of glory!
"Here's another way to put it: You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. ... If I make you light-bearers, you don't think I'm going to hide you under a bucket do you? I'm putting you on a light stand. Now that I've put you there ... shine!"
Matthew 5:14-16 (The Message)
