R.A.D.I.C.A.L. Thoughts

"I worry that the person who thought up Muzak might be thinking up something else."
Lily Tomlin
Some mornings this Daily Blog is hard to write. This is one of those mornings. This happens to be a Saturday, so I usually try to think of something light to write about on Saturday, but it's 6:30 a.m. where I am and I've been up for more than an hour and nothing is coming to mind. So, in desperation I turned to my women's quote book called "Women's Lip -- Outrageous, irreverent and just plain hilarious quotes." Some of them are not appropriate even for this RADICAL Blog. Some aren't appropriate for other reasons. But the Lily Tomlin quote made me think about the fact that MUSAK was designed to not offend anybody. It was supposed to be noncommittal, non threatening, sort of white noise. Just something to take up space inoffensively. I don't want music like that. I don't want a life like that. I want both music and a life that is "loud and proud!" Whatever you decide to do today, do it with your whole self. Turn up your radio or CD player louder than usual and get the beat as you do your weekend chores. Let the neighbors wonder what you're up to. Let the dog perk up her ears to try to figure out what you're doing. Today, whatever you're doing in the hours of this day, do it with gusto and great joy. Then when you're finished, sit down and have a chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich and love every calorie-laden delicious bite of it! No Muzak today!
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart ..."
