R.A.D.I.C.A.L. Thoughts

"The search for happiness isn't a simple uninterrupted upward ascent."
"From Blues ain't nothing but a good soul feeling bad" by Sheldon Kopp

Last night we watched Will Smith in "The Pursuit of Happyness." I am definitely a Pollyanna-type, Sound of Music type, feel-good movie type. I don't want to spend time watching something that makes me depressed or unduly sad or down. I know that's not very realistic, but the world seems to have enough stuff like that. When I watch a movie or a play, I want joyful, upbeat entertainment. The movie "The Pursuit of Happyness" was hard to watch in parts. But Will Smith as the lead character was such an optimistic character, you knew from the start that he would eventually win. Even though his circumstances were absolutely devastating at times. Even when he was washing his and his son's clothes in the sink in the bathroom of a motel, or trying to fix his equipement after "lights out" at the homeless shelter, I still felt like he would win. Every so often he would look at his son and say, "I'm happy. Are you happy?" Then you might see tears on his cheek in the next frame. He was happy because he was doing right. He was pursuing his dreams. He was caring for his son absolutely the best he could under the circumstances. He didn't have a car. He didn't have a home. He didn't have much of anything but his dreams and his determination and his love for his son. He kept pressing on no matter what. He had confidence in himself ... and there was a hint that he trusted in God, too. Are you happy today? If not, rent "The Pursuit of Happyness" and get inspired.

"He who heeds the word wisely will find good, and whoever trusts in the Lord, happy is he."
Proverbs 16:20
