R.A.D.I.C.A.L. Thoughts

"The only thing that stands between a man and what he wants from life is often merely the will to try it and the faith to believe that it is possible."
Billionaire entrepreneur Richard M. DeVos

We can't succeed at anything until we have the expectation that we CAN succeed. On some days when you are going through a midlife divorce, success is just getting out of bed, taking a shower and getting dressed. And that's alright. We have to take the early steps of recovery before we can get into the realm of figuring out what grand goals we want to achieve. On some days early on in my divorce my goal was to make it through the day and that was enough of a challenge. But as we keep making ourselves "get up, take a shower, fix our face, get dressed, eat something and get moving" every day those steps eventually get easier. Then after we realize we aren't really going to disentegrate, we can start thinking "Okay, I'm still standing ... I'm still breathing ... I still have lots of good things in my life ... now where do I want to start heading from here? After the survival steps we can start trying to figure out what we want the rest of our lives to look like. What do I really want from the rest of my life? What is my goal? What do I want to accomplish? Where do I want to be in one year or two or five years? What will make my life joyful and fulfilling and exciting and invigorating? Early on, we had to believe we could make it through the day. Now we have to believe we can make our lives whatever we want them to be. It's up to us, because the only thing that will stop us is to stop believing we can do whatever we decide we want to do.

"...with God, all things are possible."
Matthew 19:26B (RVS)
