R.A.D.I.C.A.L. Thoughts

"But the more I watch the men and women who have been markedly successful in getting, the more I am impressed with the fact that as a general rule it is the givers who are the genuinely happy people."
David Dunn - Try Giving Yourself Away

One of the easiest ways to make yourself feel better is to give yourself away to someone. We forget that some of the best gifts are things which cannot be bought. Things like simply noticing and commenting on something nice someone has done. Recognition. Other people are hungry for recognition and affirmation and encouragement or just a good natured smile. Those are such little things. But today, try giving yourself away whenever and wherever you can. To the clerk at the grocery store or drug store. To the mailman or the guy who mows your lawn. Compliment a shop owner on a certain favorite product. Send a note to a local newspaper columnist if you particularly liked his or her column. No matter who you meet today, you can at least give them a heart-felt smile. When I do that I often say just a small prayer to God requesting his blessing on that person today. You have no idea what they are facing. The more we think about giving others a lift, the more we are lifted ourselves. Try it. Just for today. You'll be glad you did, because this kind of attitude will help you as much as it helps them.

"You'll not likely go wrong here if you keep remembering that our Master said, 'You're far happier giving than getting.'"
Acts 20:35 (The Message)
